Do you provide car seats for free to families in need?
Yes! The Ascension SE MI Injury and Violence Prevention Program has a limited amount of car seats for all ages. To qualify for a car seat (per the State of Michigan), parents and caregivers must show either a referral form from a caseworker providing social services indicating the need for a free car seat or proof of current enrollment in one of the following programs for the child receiving the seat at the time of installation educational session to the technicians. Caregivers must also sign and submit a qualifying program cover memo to the technician during the seat check. Qualifying programs include:
• Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) • Family Independence Programs • Partnership. Accountability. Training. Hope. (PATH) Cash Assistance • Maternal Infant Health Provider (MIHP) services (or other home visitor program) • Refugee Assistance Program • Social Security/Disability • Children's Special Health Care Services • Bridge Card/food assistance • MI Child • Court referral or other court document • Head Start or Great Start • Referral form from a caseworker providing social services • Medicaid • Children with Special Needs Fund • Proof of child in foster care by foster parent or reunification plan • Emergency replacement after fire, flood, or crash (crash report or fire report required) • Native American Outreach Program
Please Note: We do NOT distribute infant rear facing only (RFO) carrier car seats. We do have convertible (rear to forward facing) car seats. A child weighing between 5lbs - 65lbs will ride safely in a convertible car seat when installed correctly. We also have forward-facing combination seats, high back booster with harness, and big kid booster seats.
