Ascension Providence Hospital’s Trauma Prevention Services and Safe Kids Oakland County have partnered together with Nature's Playhouse in Ferndale to provide free, educational car seat installation checks to anyone (expecting parents, grandparents, caretakers, etc.) who would like to practice installing their seat while learning valuable recommendations and safety guidelines from a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.
Each individualized check takes approximately 30 mins per seat and is done by appointment only.
This location has no protection from the weather. Because of this, checks are done between April to October. Checks will also be cancelled if raining or severe weather. Checks might still be done in light rain and are at the discretion of the Technician and in agreeance of the caregivers. We have a limited amount of convertible (5lb -65lb / rear to forward facing), high back booster with harness, and big kid booster car seats available to qualifying families (see attachment). We do NOT distribute infant rear facing only (RFO) car seats. A child weighing between 5lbs - 65lbs will ride safely in a convertible car seat when installed correctly. The child receiving the car seat must be present or mother in her third trimester. You do NOT need to be a resident of Oakland County to qualify. Child MUST be present or mother in 3rd trimester at time of appt for convertible car seats (5lbs-65lbs). During the check, the caregiver MUST sign waiver and show proof of qualifying factor for need of car seat: WIC, Medicaid, PATH, MI Child, Head Start, Great Start, Bridge Card, Referral from social or case worker, Refugee Assistance Program, Social Security/ Disability (see attachment in above heading)
