Make an appointment to work with a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Learn how to make your child as safe as possible in motor vehicles!
Ascension St. John Hospital’s Trauma Injury Prevention Services have partnered together with the Grosse Pointe Public Safety Department to provide free, educational car seat installation checks to anyone (expecting parents, grandparents, caretakers, etc.) from the Grosse Pointes and neighboring communities who would like to learn how to properly install their car seat while receiving valuable recommendations and safety information from a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST).
Each individualized check takes approximately 25 mins per seat and is done by appointment only.
We have a limited amount of convertible (5lb -65lb / rear to forward facing) and high back booster with harness seats available to qualifying families (see attachment). We do NOT distribute rear facing infant only (RFO) car seats. A child weighing between 5lbs - 65lbs will ride safely in a convertible car seat when installed correctly. The child receiving the car seat must be present or mother in her third trimester. Please indicate below if you are in need of a car seat. SOM Car Seat Grant Flyer.pdf

Child MUST be present or mother in 3rd trimester at time of appt for convertible car seats (5lbs-65lbs). During the check, the caregiver MUST sign waiver and show proof of qualifying factor for need of car seat: WIC, Medicaid, PATH, MI Child, Head Start, Great Start, Bridge Card, Referral from social or case worker, Refugee Assistance Program, Social Security/ Disability (see attachment in above heading)
