Southfield: ABC Orientation and Tour

Join our orientation to learn how we can help you achieve a natural birth in a safe, homelike setting!

Since 1979, the Alternative Birthing Center at Ascension Providence Hospital has provided low-risk individuals a low-intervention, high-touch experience in a homelike environment. The unit supports the belief that pregnancy, labor, and birth are healthy life events. This philosophy has grown from a deep respect for and trust in the innate power and ability of women to labor and birth. Families choosing this option also have the added safety of birthing in a hospital, should medical options become necessary.

Orientation is a great first step for prospective families and a requirement for those planning for an ABC birth.

We hope to resume our in-person community events soon! Until then, we will be holding orientation virtually. We will take a photo tour through the unit and let you know what to expect from admission to discharge! To get started, register on this page and view our guide: "Steps to Success".

Required Birthing Class - If this is your first time birthing naturally, a birthing class is required to be considered for the ABC. We hope you will do so with with our Childbirth Education team.

We recommend starting classes around the end of your second trimester/ beginning of your third trimester. However, families are encouraged to register as soon as possible!

Our "Birthing Naturally" classes are especially designed for the ABC but are helpful for anyone planning on a natural birth!
